Personal Growth

I emerged from the shivering mass of
matching jumpers and too-tight shoes,
as a teenage holy roller on the fiery path
of righteous vindication revenge

to finally settle down as a caramel-colored
nightmare dream
in questionable lingerie
and well-worn shitkickers

oh my, how I have grown

why surely that goes in the positive column
on the balance sheet of dysfunctional progeny

what more could you ask of me?

I didn’t kill anything
but our past –

and surely it deserved to die
