Goodbye Girl

by Alongwayfromhome

a sudden jab from your sharp tongue,
and the last artery of this dying
relationship is severed

as the life blood begins to drain from
what’s left of us, I grab the same tourniquet
I’ve used for years – my pride

wrapped in the knowledge of my worth,
I apply a little steady pressure and
I’m good to go – and go I do

ain’t no use you slipping around in sorry,
pretending you didn’t know I was a
goodbye girl . . .

I warned you the first time you cut
my heart with your lies
